It’s best to register as early as possible before an election, but you can register on election day as well.
You can register online, by mail, or in person up until 15 days prior to an election. The last day to register to vote by mail or online is:
- For the Primary: July 20, 2026
- For the General Election: October 19, 2025.
Within 14 days of an election, and on Election Day, you may only register by visiting your local clerk’s office to register in person with proof of residency documentation.
You can also update your voting registration address online 15 days prior to the election.

Early & Absentee Voting
Early voting is available in Michigan. The dates for early voting vary by community, so check with your local clerk’s office for more information on when early voting begins in your city. Note that your polling place may be different during the early voting period than where it is located on Election Day. Any registered voter in Michigan may vote early.
Absentee voting is also an option. Registered voters may request an absentee ballot and vote by mail. Sign up to receive your mail-in ballot by July 31, 2026 for the primary and by October 30, 2026 for the general election.
